Match Lucky Bag

"Match" magazine released a set of 22 figures (x21 English players + x1 Scot) in the mid 1990's and issued them in “Lucky Bags”
These lucky bags were sold via Newsagents and cost 99p
they contained a figure, sweets, crayons and other goodies.
Due to a civil action by Corinthian the sale of these "bootleg" figures was curtailed & most of the stock had to be destroyed so they are now quite difficult to find & in September 1999 a full set of 22 of these figures was supposedly sold at Christies Auctions (South Kensington) for £282.28 !!!
All of the outfield players have identical strips ... white shirt, navy blue shorts and white socks whereas the 2 goalkeepers Seaman & Flowers wear a navy blue goalkeeper's jersey. The kit worn by the 20 outfield players is reminiscent of an England 1950s kit (complete with collar) & in most of the figures it is very well moulded
There are no names stamped on the players' bases. The Rio Ferdinand & Michael Owen figures were totally new sculpts & very different to the Corinthian versions of these players.
The Michael Owen figure shown in the picture below alongside Robbie Fowler was perhaps the most controversial of the 22 figures as unlike most of the others in the set it did not look like Corinthian's "official" model of the player and slightly resembled Denis Bergkamp (although Bergkamp would NOT have been released wearing an England kit!)
The Robbie Fowler figure was reputedly deliberately "held back" by the distributors to restrict the collection of a full set of 22 figures & seems to be the most difficult figure from this set to obtain.
